Black Autumn Truffle

Tuber uncinatum Chatin

It is so much similar to the Summer truffle, that it is considered by some scientists as an Autumn variant of the Tuber aestivum Vitt. Its name comes from the hook-shaped crests of its spores. The surface has smaller warts than those of Summer truffle; its gleba changes between dark hezelnut and chocolate with numerous light veins. The odour is stronger and more pleasant than Tuber aestivum Vitt. Harvest period: September – December.
